DIY
Let us individually do something to save our planet
Do It Yourself (DIY) is a phrase that we hear so often but how often we actually implement it? One example was lockdown during pandemic – it did teach us many things, from haircuts to experimenting different cuisines, we did all ourselves. Have you given a thought about DIY regarding sustainability, greener planet, conservation, climate change, waste management etc.
We have waited far too long for governments or communities to act. But have we really acted at individual level / household level? There would have many small steps at small scales but that have definitely not been enough. World needs large-scale continuous steps to prevent further damage and reverse the damage done to our beautiful blue planet. To be honest this large-scale impact would come when many individuals take multiple small steps so that it becomes like a mass movement. We talk, we read, we want to do something but do we actually do something? This time, let us do something. We have to, it is now or never, it is no longer a choice but a need or duty towards our own survival.
Many of us want to act, want to do something, be responsible humans and minimize our ecological footprint to the save environment. However, on the other hand we always wonder ‘What can I do’, ‘what should I do’ – or these are just counter questions to justify that we cannot do anything. I am sure we will find the answers if we simply FLIP the question –
What is it that I can do at my end?
How do I make a beginning right now?
Just change the QUESTION to change the mind-set. Trust me we can do many small things, bring in just few changes and we will cover these in detail in other articles so keep exploring!
We NEED to start implementing, ‘Let me do something about it’, ‘Let me make a beginning at my end’ ‘What change can I make at my individual household level’. Once, we make a beginning that is when things start to change. I have made a beginning in implementing these few small things and I have made another beginning to write / talk about these steps and encourage some of you to do the same.
Between the hustle-bustle of family and work, I have taken few positive initiatives to reduce my ecological footprint. They may be very humble steps but if I can strike a chord with a few and encourage you to make a beginning (however humble it may be), it will be fruitful.
So, ‘Do it FOR Yourself’.
