RECLAIM your mornings...

VALUEOLOGICAL

I have been a person who loved to sleep and thankfully one of the sound sleepers who would not wake up early. However, last few years, I wake up when one doorbell rings, before the morning alarm goes off or if someone else wakes up. Basically, I get up on my own even sometimes at a time before I intend to wake up. Having said that I am still a person who needs around 7-8 hours of sleep. Since my morning waking time is fixed so to get those 7+ hours of sleep I need to sleep on time. We can control the time when we sleep in the night but in mornings to go to office, for school etc., we have to wake up by a definite time at least on weekdays, so we cannot sleep beyond a certain time. Hence, I have started to believe and follow the age-old mantra, ‘early to bed early to rise’.

Early to rise is a blessing, because mornings are beautiful! They are peaceful & serene and that is what is missing in our hectic lives, the peace and serenity. Don't you think so?

The morning bliss can be felt & experienced; it is difficult to describe it in words. Not only we are fresh and rejuvenated after a good sleep but so is the day, fresh. There is no noise of cars, honks, doorbells – the usual clutter & chaos is not there which does not allow us to focus or concentrate. So, we can do too many things with no distractions.

We plan for vacations in search of peace & tranquillity, but blissful mornings give the same kick, only if we are ready to embrace them. Only if we are ready to wake up early and feel it right where we are.

The earlier we get into this habbit the better it is. I am also still trying, still unable to wake up as early as I want. So, start with whatever best you can do, may be begin with waking 30 min to 1 hour early than your usual time. Ideally, instead of chasing a time, to begin with, aim for a little earlier and slowly improve upon it. Equally important is sleeping time in the night, since it is a cause-and-effect relationship. If you sleep on time, half the job of waking up early is automatically done, so focus on sleeping early and not reducing the hours of sleep per se. Magic of waking up early lies in the sleeping time the night before, if you can manage that then you can manage to be awake early.

Once you wake up early by whatever time, do whatever you LIKE to do in that extra time, reading, exercising, walking, meditating, gardening; anything which you wanted to do but did not do, blaming it on ‘lack of time’, ‘so many other things to be done’. The extra time can be devoted towards healthy mind and body. It should NOT be devoted to the ‘rat race’ which we all are running and getting consumed into, balance daytime is there to take care of it.

This morning time will give you a fillip in your life which was missing. However, the disclaimer is do not look at your phone / WhatsApp / emails etc. / social media in any way. Do not do any mundane activities which you usually do in this time, do something which you love to do. So let us RECLAIM our mornings, soak in the morning calm and serenity, which we truly need and deserve! For our own peace and happiness!!
