Why are our glasses so full?

Why are our glasses so full? There is a saying, that one’s perspective depends on whether they see ‘half glass full or half glass empty’. Obviously to look at positive side we should look at half glass full. However, there is another saying which means, we can grasp or learn new things depending on ‘how much our glass is empty’ meaning, how open we are to new learning, new ideas and new growth. ‘I know it all’ approach is detrimental in this case.

But why do I say our glasses are so full. So full because of information bombardment, social media exposure, our egos, self-obsession & flattery, arrogance, wants, greed to name a few. A new perspective seems difficult. On the contrary, when it comes to adoption of new technology, a new app, a new payment gateway or something we are very adaptive, we adopt fairly quickly. We are continually refreshing our glasses with new contents. So, if we are adaptive so why are we stuck in all other aspects of life. The other aspects which are far more important than digital adaptability.

Maybe we are continuously conditioned in a way so that ‘our glasses remain full’. A new perspective does not creep into our minds. We continue to run after our wants, become more arrogant and self-obsessed and in the process inflate our egos further, try to create just a better image of ours rather than better versions of ours and the vicious cycle continues.

As a result, qualities like empathy, kindness, satisfaction, righteousness, goodness have all taken a backseat. Rather it seems some of these qualities are totally missing these days. And still nothing seems to be wrong, because as long as the image is good who is looking at inherent qualities. I wonder, when did things become so superficial? This superficial has somehow become the norm these days. That is why we witness so much hate, short temper, negativity, cheating, stress, crime, one-upmanship everywhere around us.

While we were born to be loving, caring, kind, innocent what has gone wrong? Why have we stopped caring about the good qualities and virtues. It is high time that we focus on these and inculcate good values right in the founding years, in the childhood itself. Wrong value or a quality is a wrong even if the person ‘seems’ to be successful. ‘A wrong is a wrong’. Let us empty our glasses of negativity, useless information, rather let us bring in adaptability towards goodness and good deeds and actions, kindness & compassion. This is so much needed today!
