Why 'Less is more' has changed to 'more is less', far less

5/31/2026

Forget about ‘Less is more’ even ‘More has become less’ now. Do we need more things for our survival these days? Have our bodies changed, our food, clothing or housing requirements changed. What is it?

Basic needs still are the same, we still need oxygen to breathe, clothing to wear and the food & water to consume. But our thinking & mindset had shifted beyond ‘needs’ long ago. We are producing more, consuming more, hoarding more stuff, wasting more and in the process more we get the more we want, and more and more… So obviously, we have changed to ‘more is less’ and it seems far less.

Our parents’ generation had far less and for that generation ‘less was more’. They had a sense of satisfaction. While we are just shifting the goal post, new goals, new wants, new achievements – basically more and more….

But how much more? Where does it end or does it end at all?

The way we all are going, we are trapped in this vicious circle of one want after the other. We just tick a box and add ten new things in our bucket list. It is a never-ending loop.

What if we stopped adding things to our lists? May be begin by for just some time, not adding anything new to the list for a month to start with, and then to two months and so on. Mind it, the tentacles of fast fashion, fast food, new content, fast gadgets, fast travel wouldn’t spare you easily and would be inviting you constantly and pulling you in the trap. But the discipline will help overcome these tentacles.

Once you are out of the loop even for a brief period, it will force you to think about how much more. That thinking needs to trigger and may be change our mindset over a period of time. Then you will buy less, waste less and may not look for a weekend gateway every couple of weeks. Give it a try, give your bucket list a break. Though everywhere you will see the trend to follow a bucket list, for a change dump it for some time.
